The family moved to Carson City, Nevada where Mark completed grade and middle schools and his artistic and mechanical talents emerged. With his family, he enjoyed many outdoor adventures in the back country of Nevada. Additionally, as a member of the Sierra Boys Choir in Reno, he once sang at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Mark moved to Sebastopol in 1973. He attended Analy High School graduating in 1976. Mark picked up guitar and banjo and briefly played in a local band. After high school, Mark studied at Santa Rosa Junior College where he obtained an Associate's Degree in 1979. Mark spent six memorable, formative months in Australia working and living on his uncle's farm and spending time with his beloved cousin John. Mark graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Arts in 1983 and obtained his teaching credential in 1985. He worked in bicycle and jewelry manufacturing, as well as research and development. His jobs led him to participate in a mountain bike race in Colorado, a trade show in Switzerland, and to China to help set up a factory. With his manufacturing experience in hand, Mark switched to a career in teaching. He taught a variety of metal related classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College, Comstock Middle School and for the past 18 years at Sonoma Valley High School. Mark spent countless hours creating project lessons, fixing machines and searching statewide for equipment for students and the school. Additionally, he developed relationships with businesses and training programs to give career and advanced educational opportunities to his students. In his down time, Mark remodeled his Sebastopol home, built a barn and equipped it with a machine shop, and helped friends and family with innumerable projects. Mark was a member of Redwood Covenant Church and attended Bayside Church Santa Rosa. Mark absolutely loved being a father to his son, Sean. As a family, we shared trips to museums, zoos, national parks, concerts, fairs, and visited family and friends across the country and internationally. Furthermore, Mark was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 14 in Sebastopol. He helped his son and other young men develop skills and characteristics that would shape them into respectful, caring men. Mark was very involved in camping, merit badge classes, and several local events the scouts helped with including the Cajun, Celtic, and Apple Blossom Festivals, as well as Guys Can Cook Too. Mark fabricated his own smoker with help from brother-in-law, Mike. He enjoyed barbequing with his family and friends in our back yard. His recipe book contains rubs and brines for many family Thanksgiving feasts and summer celebrations. He was exuberant about working with and creating from metal. He demanded precision in his craft and pursued perfection in himself while working and engaging in hobbies. His hobbies included following the US space program, playing guitar and banjo, jazz and blues music, art, airplanes, classic cars, motorcycles, and studying, repairing and building machines. He was compassionate and believed the best from everyone he met.
